Classic romantic red roses and Baby's breath

Valentine’s Day is one of the notable celebrations of the year. It tends to feel a little more modern than the rest, but is possibly one of the oldest festivals still in practice.

It’s distant roots lie in the festival of Lupercalia, likely pre-Roman, held between the 13th and 15th February. It was a fertility rite, later dedicated to Faunus, Roman god of agriculture and to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.

roses and liliesCirca 496 Pope Gelasis I declared February 14th as a Christian feast day in honour of Saint Valentine. Valentine reportedly married couples in secret, defying a decree by Claudius II who had banned weddings as he felt that unmarried men made better soldiers.

Yet it wasn’t until the 17th Century that English men and women began exchanging romantic cards and letters on this date.

Of course, today it is an international celebration and, at Shrinking Violet Bespoke Floristry in Malvern, we know that there is no better way to show your love than through the gift of beautiful flowers.

The best thing about our flowers is that every single bouquet or display is as unique as your love. Each arrangement can be tailored to your personal taste, meaning that you will always have the perfect expression of your feelings.

Choose your own selection of flowers, Red Roses are traditional and so synonymous with romance, but there are other options too.  Goddess Venus’s flower, Myrtle, blue Hyacinth for fidelity or Tulips a cheaper alternative to roses and also symbolic of true love.  Get a little cheeky with some Arum Lilies, symbolising ardour or use some Orange Blossom believed, by the Saracens, to signify ‘fruit bearing’.

Don’t worry if you have no specific flowers in mind, let us handle it all for you! We have years of experience to draw on to create a memorable floral gift for your loved one on this special occasion.

Please ensure you place your orders by 11am on 10th February 2017 to avoid disappointment.
