Shrinking-Violet is run by Lucy Jones. I am a creative floral designer who does bespoke floristry and produces works of art made from a natural medium.
I have experience of working in florist shops over the years, but
kept diverting back to office work, as secretarial qualifications from
school led to earning a good wage and the experience gained resulted in
management positions; however my longing was to work with flowers.
I trained at Pershore Horticultural College in City & Guilds NVQ level 2 National Certificate in Floristry and Level 3 Award in Creative Techniques. My love of floristry just grew!
Being a perfectionist I pay great attention to detail, but I also like designs to look natural and not contrived.
The shape and style of arrangements are important to me as floristry is like an art, like fashion or interior design, which uses textures, colours and shapes of flowers to bring out the desired effect. I love to work with a mass of one type of flower, as this is the way in which flowers tend to grow in the wild, and I particularly like to purchase flowers locally and use biodegradable sundries if possible. I insist on using the finest quality flowers and foliage.
I am now fortunate to have a renewed outlook on life and my inspiration with using flowers is a natural gift, which has made my dream to run my own florist business come true.
